SAFE PRACTICES ON LATHE
1. Dress properly. Roll-up full sleeves, don't wear jewellery or neck tie. Avoid long hair too.
2. Clamp work properly and use correct speed, feed and depth of cut.
3. Stop the machine before making measurements or adjustments.
4. Never change the speeds while the machine is running.
5. Do not stop the Lathe by reversing the direction of rotation.
6. Use a brush and not hands, to clean chips from work or swarf on tool tip.
7. Never clean moving machines and never apply a rag or cotton waste to revolving work.
8. Keep proper posture and avoid watching too close to the cutting place. The chips may fly and damage your eyes. Call on the doctor for removal of chips or swarf that had entered the eye. Never rub your eye as it may damage the eye seriously.
